Yup, this little girl was getting handed out for nowt on Freecycle, along with her rather too small cage (which is getting replaced on payday). Rather she came here than went off to anyone, and she's settled in very well.

Bought her some toys and some natural wood perches to get those nails filed down, and in 3 weeks time her new companion arrives. Gives us time to get the new cage set up for him, then we can add her after careful intros over time.

Ahhh what a little cutie
Did you look for anything in particular (when you found her on freecycle)? Or just browsing around? :shifty:

Freecycle comes through my email - it's a Yahoo Group for people sharing things for free (eg. rather than things going to the tip). So no, I wasn't looking, although I have placed an ad for a large dog crate needed, as I'll be fostering some pups in the next few weeks. Great site, shame some people break the rules and use it to advertise animals :(

Slight exaggeration there?

I love Freecycle, have had some fab stuff off there, I just don't like the rules being broken. Pets aren't for Freecycling, and it says a lot about the owners when they use Freecycle to palm them off :(

Anyway back on topic. She's been singing this afternoon, she loves Baz especially :D

oh she is lovely. I have 2 budgies, called 'penny' and 'midas'.
I get your point about animals on freecycle but if people could not get rid of unwanted pets easily, they might dump them. Lots of people would have just let her fly out of the window instead of finding her a new home.
Will you get her a little budgie friend?

Yeah I get what you mean, but don't see the difference to be honest. I'm completely against people using Freecycle to offload unwanted animals (it's the online equivalent of taking them to the dump), there are rescues that will take pets and find them proper homes. But then there are people who just don't know better. That's why the groups are meant to be moderated though.

Of course it could be argued that I'm being hypocritical having taken her on, because it teaches him that it works. That would be a fair point, but at least she is safe now.

Yes, I've found her a new boyfriend already. He's coming home in 3 weeks, by that point their swanky new cage will be ready :D

Hey not far off if you live in London :hyper: it's insane - honestly. I only look now when I want something in particular. And unless you respond almost immediately or at least within a few hours, it's gone. Sorry for going OT again ;)

Certainly sounds like she's settline in :good:

Kathy this is happening all to often these days and i hate it
Our nearest freecycle has Banned any animal listings after members started to complain

woooie. She will be delighted. Budgies are so much more fun when there are more than one of them. I must admit I don't have a problem with putting the animals on freecycle. It isn't any different to offering them free in the local admag paper . At least you know freecycle members have had to register to join whereas the admags have all kinds of not nice people scouring the free ads for pets to breed or sell on.

Graham - know exactly what you mean. Our Freecycle is moderated, which means emails don't come through without being okayed by the "staff". Advertising animals is against the rules and yet you still see idiots advertising them on there, so even the mods are breaking the rules. I saw one woman advertise a bloody cat on it, only let it go because luckily the rescue I got my cats off is a member on there. Eejits I swear.

I'm getting dead excited about her friend coming now. Can anyone give me some decent cage recommendations (on a budget)? I've seen a Ferplast Rekord 6 on Zooplus which is a good size, but it doesn't come with a stand and apparently the doors are small. It's very cheap though at £45 with the discount I've got waiting. I think my budget maxes out at about £75, but the cheaper and bigger, the better. Seen some very cheap parrot cages on eBay and elsewhere, but the bar spacing is too wide on them. I need maximum space for this lass though as she's very nervous.

Thanks :D
