Funny Situation? Or Serious?

Ok i have a small green feather duster. He has been in my tank for about 4 months, when i was upgrading to a bigger tank, i went to pick him up and he completely came out his ''covering''. For a while he had no protection and stayed in one spot for a while, then one day i saw him take a old hermit crab shell for a new home!

but now i dont know where he is in my tank lol? This ever happen to anyone?

Usually they don't last long out of their sheath. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, but when my wife's did this, it appeared to be dead in a few hours. The hermit crabs ate it pretty fast, so if we didn't see it right then, we might not have known it died since the scavengers are so good at cleaning up a mess.
