just noticed today when i looked up through my tank that the surface looks well.. dusty..
thats the best i can describe it, i have moved the power head output to create more surface disturbance in the hope the churned up 'stuff' will get filtered - not sure if that was a wise choice , but hey...

any better ideas for getting rid of surface 'stuff'?

or opinions on whether i should be concerned anyway
fish dont seem upset by it, now got:
2 baby angels - about an inch long
4 cory cat fish (assorted - think 2 might be panda, the other 2 look bronze but not quite)
2 platty (mf preggers??)

TIA

Hi Andy!
If its in the new tank, its pobably stuff off the gravel after filling the tank for the first time. A good way to get rid of it is to hold the rim of a cup or a beaker just a tiny bit under the surface and let the surface water run into it quickly, that way you remove the film but not too much water. It can have an effect on gas exchange on the surface, so its best not to leave it there. I run a finger or a piece of kebab stick under the surface to check the water quality, if the bubbles dont burst quickly, there could be a problem with the water.

doh! simple AND obvious

yes it is the new tank, and it did get quite cloudy when first filled so makes sense to be gravel gunk, i'll see what the filter doesnt get, and try to syphon it out with a cup - will also get an oxygen test kit too i think - dont want my new fish suffocating

Hi Andyt_uk :)

I think your surface problem has been pretty well covered between this thread and the other one. But I did notice something else to comment on.

It's your platty fry in the little tank. -_- Better keep an eye on the ADF. He will eat them if he can.
