What are the little clear funnels in front of corys eyes? (to the right of eye in below photo)

The funnels are more prominent on pepper cory faces than the pandas...but the panda was mroe keen to pose tonight

The barbels? I don't see any funnels

They're it's 'nostrils'; used not for breathing, but for smelling :good:

Yeah, that really is a very impressive pic!

Yeah that's a great pic now I see them! Yeah those his nostrils

for smelling? wow, i've learnt something today...thanks.

wish i could get pics like this?! :/
ME ALSO!

My photography skills are lacking severly by comparison.

I have Skunks, Pygmys and LongFin Pandas...
Some of my LF Pandas have "nostril" skin that almost look like "antlers" in comparison to any of the above photos. It's kind of endearing

Chokko - If you dont mind me asking, what lens set-up are you using there?

And as FM rightly said, thats a nostril :)

It's the Nikon D700 with Nikon 105mm VR lens. Shooting at around 1/125, f14, iso200, VR on, handheld.
Using a SB800 flashlight at the top of the tank to bounce around some light, and the camera flash is being used to trigger the Sb800 (haven't figured out how to stop visible light coming from the camera flash yet)

Ah, somewhat what above the level of my Nikon! (Several levels) I use a L120 @ ISO200, VR on, but cant get that level of focus up close. Need a lens extension i think...!

Nice photos :good:

Tried taping some black card over the flash?

I need to look into a macro lens and flash gun for mine..

nostrils? they look like dual revolver barrels :)

leads me to another question...what function is the teardrop shaped piece of skin over the eye?
