Hi All,

I have had a problem with my mollie for a couple of months now. I have been treating her for fungus and fin rot with protozin which i have heard was a good medication. When I complete the treatment course the fungus dissapears for about 3 days and then comes back again  , so I have decided to use the next best thing, salt. I can't use salt in my tank because I also have 2 corries and a pleco, I dont have another tank, so the only option I have is to use a clean bucket.

Anyway what I wanted to know is:
a - should I use a mix of tank/clean water in the bucket?
b - will she be ok without a filter and a heater?
c - how much salt to use

I hope someone can help

Thanks

you can do one of two things. you can either try a salt bath, where you put the fish in a container with the salt and water for about 20-30 minutes. or you can use epsom salts. epsom salts can be used the same as aquarium salt without burning scaleless fish.

mollies are brackish and best kept in such setups

Thanks for the reply semper - how much salt do I use in the salt bath, will ordinary cooking/table salt work?

no, you would use aquarium salt. it should be available at any lfs. the dosage is 1 well rounded tablespoon per 5 gallons of water. depending on the size of the container, you would adjust the dosage of salt. you do need to change the bath after each treatment.
