so i noticed mouth fungus on my rasboras yesterday and since i was'nt thrilled w/ the swamp tank, turned it into a hospital tank....(i cleaned it and added "safe" h20) so the qustion is...does anyone have sucsess stories with treating fungus...im using mycaracin (or somethin like that, its fungal med.) and also adding some meleafix....i think my whole school of rasboras are infected (all but onethat is and im keeping a close eye on him)...I dont know.... its happened b4 and i lost the fish.....just looking for some hopeful words.

If caught soon enough there is a great chance for survival. Maracyn is a good product from what I hear. I've never used it personally so that's all I have to go by.

Good just keep an eye on your other fish. Its possible that the fungus could've spread if so you should treat the whole community tank. Hope it didn't tjhough ;)

Might be worth trying to find out what caused the fungus in the first place. Fungus is usually a secondary infection or a sign of some serious stress. If it affected only one species of fish in a community tank then I'd guess that it's a compatibility problem with that species of fish or a result of injury due to the actions of that species or another species on the affected fish.
Hope that makes sense! :S

its not just afffecting the rasboras i noticed it on a female guppy this morning and I saw some starting on a male guppy...I thought it was bad to treat a whole tank if everyone wasnt sick...but should i or just keep an eye to see if they get the fungus then move them into the hospital tank?

Considering so many fish have it or are coming down with it, I would administer it to the whole tank now. Make sure that if you use carbon that you take it out. :)

Like waterloo kid mentioned, fungus is usually a secondary infection created by a nipped fin, for example, and then with either stress or high ammonia/nitrites ie, not as clean of water as it could be, fungus might set in.

I am NOT saying you have bad water or bad husbandry skills so please don't think I'm talking down to you. :) I'm just trying to say what could be the causes of any fungus problem as a generalization. It could have been he scraped himself on a rock and other fish are chasing him and he's stressed.

I would make sure to keep the water as clean as possible during the healing process. Maybe even feed them a bit less while they are going thru this to cut down on any ammonia in the water.

i dont know i did move them from "thier" home to another then back (over 3 days) so that might have stressed them out...but its a mouth fungus im seeing here...i dunno but i will treat the 20 gal. also but at the moment there is like 3 guppies and a molly...also is the filter media in the penguins filled with carbon??? I dont use carbon as an extra filter...i bought some on the advice of a lfs clerk and used it for a day then took it out...it started leaking out of the bag it was in, what a mess! any who......thanks for the help smb...im sure the fungus came from some guppies i put in there...i went to where i bought them and saw they had some diseases going on in their tanks too...not replaceing any fish for a while...just gonna keep the male guppies away from the fem. i have left......

OK, then seems you've found the source yourself. :)

All is good tho. Fungus is easily treatable in the beginning stages that there's no worries at all. It's in the internal stages that it's too late in most cases.

What med/meds are you using?

im using Maracyn by Mardel...it seems to be working, but i think im going to lose the female guppy...her mouth is all deformed  it is not as white as it was yesterday though...
