Unfortunately I didn't get a pic.
This morning when I checked on Kiet he had a small patch of white, fluffy stuff on the top tip of his tail. I thought it might be fungus, checked around online and I'm pretty sure it was. It did look like cotton wool was stuck to his tail.

Anyway, before I've got a chance to go out and get some medication for him, something's happened. That part of his tail appears to have gone. Like it dropped off or something. Is this common?

I did a water change for him yesterday. What could have caused him to get the fungus?

the fungus might have taken it away, i wouldnt worry too much just get some meds in there.

My betta has finrot at the mo and the med ive got does finrot and fungus as well so dont worry like i said.

According to the info sheet in the box its caused by stress and/or bad water conditions

My daughters betta had fungus and lost the last bit of his tail too but it grew back.

i keep hearing about medications and such for the fish, beign rather new still to this type of fish, what kind of medications would you suggest? names etc?

I like Jungle Fungus Eliminator and I add a little BettaMax in the tank. If you go to any petstore though you can find quite a few treatments. After a while you will have your own little "Betta Medicine Cabinet" (It really helps too to keep up on your water changes)

BettaFix and Melafix only vary in their strength. Both are good. Honestly I sometimes wonder if our very clever Bettas don't knock those diseased bits off their tails themselves...it's almost like those lizards that can lose a tail and grow another. Smart Bettas!

A friend taught their Betta to jump through a hoop. But mine can stay in the water, thank you. Mind you Sunrise's fins would stop him from even clearing the water...like a lady in long wet skirts! Besides who wants to encourage Bettas to jump? But University students like to do wild and crazy things.

So there's no more signs of fungus, should I medicate anyway?

If the tail has fallen off then I would use either melafix - dilute, or bettafix just as a helping hand. I'm not one for medicating unnecessarily but it can be helpful in these sort of cirumstances.
