My bronze cories are laying eggs every other day(or sometimes every 3 days) I usually leave them in the tank and they eat them all, well last week I decided to take some out just to see if they were fertile or not. I removed about 20 eggs and put them in the tank with my 2 pandas(last wed). Totally forgot about them and when I was doing a water change I noticed they were out of the water as I'd drained it away, so I quickly scraped them off with my finger(squishing some in the process) and tried to stick them back on further down but they weren't as sticky and just floated away in the water, don't know where they landed. I just figured they would be eaten by the pandas / sucked up by the filter and they still looked pretty white to me. I went away on friday and totally forgot about the eggs, I was gonna do a water change on monday like I always do(I usually do water changes twice a week) but didn't have the time. So I came to do it this morning and as I was sucking debris up I saw something move, took a closer look and realised it was a cory fry, I was totally shocked as I'd forgotten totally about the eggs, had a look to see if any more had survived and I think there's about a dozen.

I don't understand how they have survived after all my bad handling of their eggs, plus why haven't they starved to death! I'm assuming they must have hatched around sunday / monday and I've only been putting enough food in for the 2 little pandas. I went out and got some hikari first bites(it's the only fry food the shop had) so I'm hoping that will be ok for them, how long will it be before they can have proper food? Geez I really should have researched this more, but I figured the eggs wouldn't be fertile and I totally forgot about them after I moved them.

So could anyone give me some advice on what I should be doing? I'm gonna have a good read about raising fry but if any of you have any helpful tips that'd be great. Don't know what I'm gonna do with them all when they grow bigger until I find new homes, some of them can stay with the pandas and some can go in with the parents and I have an empty 5 gal but that's not very ideal. Aaaah won't be saving any eggs anymore, the parents can chow down LOL!

Ok I skipped the last paragraph, because I am hungry. C. Aeneus/bronze Cory spawns if left totally alone will have eggs that survive and fry that survive if there are no other type of fish.

About one per spawn will survive in an established tank. The wigglers eat the egg sac for a few days, then they eat unseen microbes in the water until they can eat with the adults.

Hikari first bites is fine although really fine powdered. I use that for a few days after I give them a few days to eat the egg sac, and then use Atisons Betta Starter. HBC also has a fry powder but it funguses more easily. Some use liquid fry. I also have a gel food from GelTec that I add.

Good luck Oh! and Congratulations!

I also use First Bites. I put a little tank water in a plastic cup add the first bites, swirl it to mix and slowly pour it in. as they get older I finely grind regular flakes, algae wafers and freeze dried brine shrimp. The fry seem to like it.

I don't know if you can but I would love to see pictures of the little guys. You can give them finely burshed flakes, small pieces of algae pellets or even fry food.

next time they breed scrape the eggs off with a razor blade because cories eat 95% of their fry. :good:

Thanks for all the replies, haven't been able to post on here for some reason whenever I went to post it would close the whole site..weird.

Anyway all the fry are still going strong, I moved 6 of them in with adults a few days ago because I needed the tank with the 2 pandas(added more pandas), they all seem fine, adults haven't bothered with them at all, they are well fed so not sure if that's why they haven't eaten them. I think the fry are big enough for crushed flakes now seeing as when I feed the adults bloodworms the fry are whipping off with some lol, quite a funny site seeing this tiny little fry tring to eat a bloodworm that's twice it's size!

I'll try and get some pics of them but my camera is really bad, also need to find them homes eventually, my lfs said they'd probably take them but not until they were about 6 months, bit wary of them having them as they aren't that good, some of the staff are v.knowledgeable but some just about know that fish go in water.
