How soon do you think is ok to put barb fry in larger community tank?

I have six 3 month old fry about _____ so long... probably 2 cm, 3/4 inch in a tank just for them. In my big tank i have one adult Barb a good 2 inches long... maybe larger and a bunch of platy's. Is it ok to mix them yet?

Reason I'm asking is ikeep finding platy fry (count is up to 17 now) in a little nursing/breeding tank that hooks inside my big tank... and i just don't think it's big enough for them anymore. Some of them are about month and a half, and really growing, and I want to get them in the fry tank. Maybe the other question is would they be ok with the barb fry in the 5 gal?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

As a minimum make sure the fry are big enough that they cannot fit in the mouths of any of the tank inhabitants. Also if any of them are aggressive (the Barb may fit into this category) then wait until they are at least am inch or more. Putting them in with the barb fry would be ok as long as they were similar sizes. HTH :)

put them in straight away because they will grow up and breed again and grow up and breed again. this way there r going to be less fish to breed. if you dont u will over populate tank and all fish will dye. i did it with my guppies and it had angels in and none of them died.
