I have about 500-600 fry that I have in a 10G. They have been free swimming for about 4 days and was wondering why they don't eat the food that I put into the tank? I use crushed up flakes. If I look closely I can see that they have still have their yoke sake. Do they eat on this? And if so how long? This fry are texas cichlid.

Not from experience, but from what I have read elsewhere on the forums, the fry will continue to feed from the yoke sack until they loose it. I'm sure it will depend on the species as to how long it will take.

thats alot of little cichlids! i hope my seahorses (when i get them) have tons of babies too..

and yah, can you still see a yolk sack? it is usually yellow-ish. they can live on that for a while. the time depends on the species. you may look up something on google about cichlid fry. good luck, and get us some pictures of ur little fish! :fun:

You don't want to feed them for the few days they are eating their yolk sac.

Edit: To answer your other question..about 3-4 days.
