Just noticed that some of my fry were swimming at the top of the fry tank as if the were trying to get air, some were upside down, and some were clearly dying.
They are between four and six weeks old and have been in the fry tank for three weeks with no problems. I did my usual water change today and water stats were fine.
I caught up the ones in the most distress and put them in to a net in the parent tank, a few died but most seem better. I checked the Ammonia and Nitrite in the fry tank and both were 0, i then did a large water change.
I have been keeping an eye on the rest of fry and they seem to be acting normal now.
Anyone any ideas as to what's happening ?

Hi alan3513 :)

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your fry. If it helps any, it's not an unusual thing to happen. Most often it's the result of bacteria growing on uneaten food. Try to minimize the problem by keeping up daily partial water changes and stirring the substrate (preferably a thin layer of sand) regularly. It helps too if you feed them small portions frequently instead of large ones once or twice a day.

I hope you can get them on the road to health again.

Thanks for the advice, I have been doing as you mentioned since they went in to the fry tank three weeks ago, i.e daily water changes, and syphoning up any left over food, then moving the sand about. Also been feeding small amounts four times a day. It's possible that i've missed some food and the bacteria has built up.
Lost seven of the sixteen that were the worst affected and that i had removed from the fry tank and put in a net in the parent tank but managed to save the other nine . The other fry in the fry tank seem unaffected. Thanks again, Alan.
