I have a batch of 5 week old fry. So far, I am not getting the result I had expected. I have a couple color questions.

Ok, dad ate most of the eggs, so I only have 6 or so. I did not expect any cambo, but so far it looks like all but 2 will be, or BF. They only have color on bottom, and tail fins so far, and it looks orange, not red. Is that normal for cambo?

Mom, looked 100% Celo when I got her. No color at all, but red eyes. I think she was 3-4 months old. After about a month, her body became mostly red. Fins, stayed clear, and still are.

Dad, has Opaque fins (tiny red spot), and body is same red marbled, as the female. They are NOT related, and male is DT.

I know they all carry dt, and most look like they will have nice wide dorsals. :hey:
I thought they would all have clear, or white fins like the parents. And that I would probably get a combo of Red, White, marbled, bodies. I figured that because of dad's little red spot, I may even get a marbled fin here or there. But, all cambo's? and orange?

I'll try to post pics tomorrow.

im not a wiz at this....infact my fry are even anything but eyeballs still but...I believe I once heard that sometimes it takes a while for the fry to color up and that it depends on enviornemt? I dont know though just what I heard from the LFS guy who had a tank of babies that were like what you said no coloration in the body and colored fins...when I cam back the next week he had jarred three and they colored up the next day...?? So haha dunno just thought id TRY and help dont quote me on anything...good luck though...im sure they just need a tad longer to color up :)

Ok, Now I see 10. All have white bodies (So Far), and have varying amounts of orange on fins. (will prob darken to red.) As of no, it does not look like, I will get any that look like the parent. I had hoped for little copies of mom. I'm not sure if I will breed the parents again. I hope with a bigger spawn, I'd get better results. I may just wait, and breed 2 of these babies, then at least I'd get dome DT's.

Working on pics of Mom, and Dad.

:/ sorry you're disapointed. That's the problem with breeding any animal ~ nothing is completely predictable! I'm guessing you didn't know the parents/lineage of these two Bettas? Both of their parents could've been Cambo's, and they could've been rarities in their spawns. I actually love Cambo's, and so do a lot of other people!
