woke up yesterday to find my big female (babs) who loves giving fry and staying healthy giving birth, there were loadsa in the tank many more than usual even for her. i also notced she was still giving birth as her gravid was still very large and black, so i set up my digital camcorder on her and set to record, and guess what i caught her first time giving birth its great i now have visual proof of how my fry were born. if anyone wants to see it ill try to make it a pc file and post it. but the funny thing was i thought they gave birth to 1 at a time but no she gives birth to 3 at a time, so no wonder that there were so many in the tank.

also woke this morning to my horror to see that there werent many left today, so i turned the light on and then voila around 40 of the little buggers all trying for my attention swimming into the light and thinking they run the place.

fry are so interesting and all have their own little personalities

any queries or questions about my little guys post here

woohoo found a local fish shop that will take fry and PAY me for them, how good is that and they are really reliable and good what a result

Lucky for you that the shop can take the fry. I am trying to breed guppies but I don't have enough room for all the fry! And no shops in my area will buy the fish off me.

I currently suffer from fry overpopulation also, but I have the choice of returning some to the wild :) I have a suitable river just 2 hours away, already populated with wild guppies. I just hope the fancy ones won't significantly alter the locals! :look:

Most likely the fancy guppies won't do as well as the wild ones. The large tails on the fancy guppies makes them easier to nip at and inbreeding makes them more likely to get diseases. I wish I could get my hands on some wild guppies, I would like to see the differences between domestic and wild varieties.

i sell my fry to my lps 1dollar a peice at 1 year of age

Good for you! I remember you asking me if I could send you some. I am glad that you have gotten into the breeding. Wish I had your luck with selling them though. I am almost ready to mail them out for free to anyone who wanted them!
