So i went to the LFS yesterday and bought some frozen bloodworms, and they came in blocks that are way larger than what I want to feed my betta at once. Is it safe to thaw out one block, feed part of it, then freeze it again?

Nicole

Don't freeze it again but it will keep for a few days in the fridge.

However, it's possible to cut small pieces of the frozen block with a sharp knife.

Nicole,

Do exactly what SirMinion said, take a knife, cut the amount you are going to use off the cube, and only thaw that bit. Just keep the rest frozen.

Do you have any other fish? They would surely appreciate some every once in a while. I would still cut a peice off, one cube is enough to feed 3 of my tanks. But if you have some extra from that peice, your other fish would like it.

1 cube of bloodworms is barely enough for my three candy striped gobies alone! :hyper: Not to mention the other hungry fish in that tank :p

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll definately cut the cubes up before tomorrows feeding. All my fish love them, my mom even let me give some to her betta, and she usually freaks whenever i give her fish a treat while i am spoiling mine. The betta is the only one that gets them daily, because peas and bloodworms are the ONLY thing i can get this fish to eat.

I don't have very big fish, that is why one cube feeds so many. My angel can eat 1/2 cube to himself when I give it to them, but that isn't very often. Bloodworms are a treat in most my tanks.

Know what's sad? It takes three cubes just to feed my bettas alone. I have too many bettas. :|

How much should I offer my betta? I know it is as much as will be eaten, but that is hard for me to judge, and he PIGS OUT when it comes to bloodworms.

How do you feed them? Do you just throw the cube things in there without defrosting them? Not saying that it's wrong...I'm just curious because I've been meaning to buy some but I don't know how to feed them.
I would guess you let him eat what he can in 2 minutes.

What I have been doing, though I need to rethink this, is i would thaw the cube out so the edges were slightly thawed, then take a tooth pick and scoop some out. My fish love them so much, they will actually pick them out of the bottom of the tank, which i know is rare (i've seen my bettas and zebra danios do this). Right now, I'm thinking I might 1/4 or 1/8 the blocks, and toss in a frozen block.

I take a cup with tank water in it and thaw the cube out. If it doesn't gross you out too much you could use your fingers like I do. I usually give my boys 5 or 6 each. They will take it right from my fingers. some people have used toothpicks, tweezers, and medicine pipettes. There was a thread on that in the betta section a while ago, I tried to find it but failed.

It is a treat for them. They get 3 pellets in the morning, and the blood worms at night once a week. The other days they get either 4 pellets, or peas. I also fast them once a week.
