Hi everyone
How often should you feed blood worms please? I feed flakes, pellets, algae wafers and freeze dried once a week. Tried my fish on frozen mozzy larvae last night and they loved them :p YUM

I feed mine every other day.

Depends what fish you have. I feed some of my fish in my community tank bloodworm every day coz they don't eat flakes or pellets. As a result of this the other fish in the tank eat bloodworm everyday also and a few of them now turn up their noses at pellets and wait for the bloodworm (or other frozen food)

If any of those cichlids are Mbuna (the smallish rockdwelling species from lake Malawi), then they should not get them at all.

Thanks everyone :D My cichlids are bigger, from lake Tanganika I think. One is a frontosa, about 5 inches long, the others are 2 yellow/brown about 3 - 4 inches one has beautiful yellow and blue eyes. The other is blue/silver. I don't know which type but if anyone can identify would be grateful. My daughter and her boyfriend have a dig camera and will try to post some pics later today.

why is that? i've never heard that a certain type of fish shouldn't be allowed to eat bloodworms.

(most) mbuna are susceptible to a condition called 'bloat', a digestive condition that kills quickly if not caught in the early stages. The two main causes of it are inferior water quality and improper food. These fish have long, thin intestines built to digest large amounts of algae, as well as invertabrates found within. Fatty foods, especially worms, are unlike anything they find in the wild, and their systems are not built to handle it.
