my gf has decided that rather than buy a bigger tank when her goldfish start to grow, she wants to put them into my parents (currently empty except for a large lilly) unfiltered pond. is this safe for the fish, or easy enough to do? for reference they are both common goldfish at about 2" long each

How big is the pond? Unfiltered ponds of a decent size can normally support a few Goldfish.

good question, its an oval pond with a round bottom, i'd guess max depth about 0.5m, width 0.75m and length 1m approx. plenty of pond snails in the summer, plus newts, tadpoles, pondweed and the large lilly...

So its roughly 100gallons, that is quiet smalle for a pond so it would be a good idea to get some form of pump at least and preferable a pump and filter. :)
