So Friday was supposed to be a happy day! 50 Cardinals and 4 Ram were to arrive to their new home. I took the whole day off work for this!

1) They did not turn up as they went 'missing' with the courier. They then found that on the Friday they were still in the Midlands as they had 'held' the box for a reason they would not say! The guy shipping the fish to me then got in touch with the company to express his views. They said no van was coming up to Aberdeen again until Monday. So i would have dead fish for sure!

2) this morning (Saturday) the door bell goes....its the fish!

Out comes a big bad with 50 dead cardinals. 3 Rams are fine in their own bags, but the 4th is dead as the bag burst!

But never fear, i got the bag of cardinals into a warm aquarium, and some of them perked up!! Into the QT with the 3 Rams! I put them into the QT rather than my main tank as if they too were going to die or take ill, it would obviously be easier to take care of.

3) I went through for my 15 minute check, and the QT was emptying its self onto the floor - the bottom had got a crack in it and flooded the floor! 30L in a few mins was not a fun job to clean up. So I was running around like an idiot, got a big 25L bucket, filled with water out my other aquarium, and started scooping the fish out into it. How stressed must they be now!!!

So, i am thinking that i have to put them into my main aquarium this evening once they have time to settle down for 5 mins. It kinda sucks though as i wont be able to add ammonia, so when all the replacement fish turn up, i will have a large quantity to home, and i cant the go throwing 50 cardinals into my tank.

I am so stressed out, and so frustrated! Hopefully with some time in the bucket with the filter and 2 heaters, they will pull through!

That is insane! Is this a normal experience when getting fish delivered? Hope you get it sorted soon!

First time i have had them delivered! But i am assured that had the fish turned up on time, all would have been well. Given the fish reviving after meeting warm water, the answer is clearly the heat packs running out due to the delay. This is, after all, the way that most fish are transported to LFS.

LFS tend to have some percentage of fish loss through transportation though.

Hope they survive.

Is the retailer going to replace them?

Yeh, free of charge, including delivery! Good guy!

My other post RE how many fish i can add was just before the 'leak'. But it is now more important seen as i HAVE to add these fish to the big tank tonight once they settle for a few hours in the temporary bucket!.... If he delivers the replacement fish, i think i will have to add some to the main tank with the survivers from today, some to my new QT which i am going to have to buy, and some to my 90L to spread the load out a bit!

What an absolute nightmare! The delay with the fish would have been enough on it's own but the qt tank must have been the last straw. I'd have been rocking slowly backwards and forwards and licking the windows if it had been me!

Who said i have not been doing that already :p

Fish are now out the bucket and in the big tank! Not all will survive....some are flipping upside down. But i needed to get them out and into a more controlled environment! Good luck fishies!

Got my fingers crossed that your losses are minimal. Definitely spread the load as much as you can, and test for spikes. Unfortunately you might find yourself doing multiple changes on multiple tanks, but we do what we have to to keep the fish happy :)

Yes, good luck, I think you all need it!

Wow, it sounds like there's finally somebody with worse luck than me! :shifty:

I'd need a week off of work after that happening, forget the day you had!

Well, i am up to 27/50 Cardinals and 3/4 bolivians! I recon a couple more of the cardinals will go though, but they are in a well prepped tank which has good, consistent and settled conditions for them.

Tank is so big it will be so difficult to count/find survivors/ passers!

That's not bad considering what they (and you) went through!
