I am interested in adding branching Frogspawn. I have power compact lighting over my tank and it has been there for about a week. I have had a mushroom in there for a week but that is the only other type of "coral" I have. I have had my water tested and the LFS thinks it should be fine to add, but I am having it retested tonight. Anything I should know before adding this to my tank?

Frogspawn lighting requirements are moderate. Where the magic is, is the flow around it. Notice I say around it, not on it. My spawn seems to like a lot of indirect flow. It likes to be in water movement, but not directly in the path of an outlet.

A small specimen, say two or three branches, should start out well, but as it grows, can dominate a large area. It is considered a stinging coral and will not be tolerated well by any neighbors.

When placing it, your first inclination will be to stand it up like a tree or toadstool. This does work to a degree and provides light for the whole creature, but most, myself included, usually have the best success placing it horizintally. Polyp extension seems greater when placed thusly. It makes lighting a little trickier for further developing branches, but nobody said it would be easy... :D

Thanks!
So, it says it should be placed on the bottom. Does this mean on the sand, or on a rock near the bottom? Do you think 6 inches away from a mushroom would give it enough room?

ESS..isn't your tank new and just up and cylcled? I think frogspawn is a bit premature...just trying to help you out. If your tank is as young as I think.....if I were you...I'd stay with hardier corals for now..mushrooms, zoanthids. polyps, some leathers and ricordia. Just a recommendation. SH

I have one ujnder power compacts I have just one question though on average how fast do these grow. heres mine.

I'm happy to say I think my clown is hosting this coral not reall sure though correct me if i'm wrong. but he seams to spend alot of his time right next to the coral it is sometimes touching it. sorry about the brown algea my tanks having another bloom try cleaning it off just grows back in a hour time.

I would class it as a moderate grower.

They go a tad slow from a branch or two, seem to grow well from three or four till they have about eight to ten branches, then seem to slow back a bit.
