One of my ADFs is very very bloated around the belly. He also has a sore on his arm, one on his foot, and a large bump on his chin. The bump and leg sore were originally covered in fungus (this was my daughters frog and she wasnt very good at water changes). As soon as I noticed this, I stuck him in a hospital tank (5 gallon minibow) at a temp of 80F. I change the water daily. This was about a month ago. Since then, he's still very bloated, he eats a little bit (not much) and acts fine (swims, floats, does what adfs do). In the month, I have tried a week long course of melafix and pimafix (half tablespoon for the 5 gallon) and the fungus is gone. Ive also tried 5 days of erythromiacin tablets combined with the melafix and pimafix. About 2 weeks ago I started putting a tablespoon of salt in the water too. Last week I switched to tetracycline tablets in the water (these are all fish antibiotics I got at my LFS). I put the antibiotics in at night and the melafix and pimafix in the morning. I change water around 4pm. This afternoon I noticed the sore on his leg is almost gone and the one on his arm looks like it popped somewhat- before it was a lump with a scab on the end- now its just a scab. He does not use this arm at all. His chin lump looks like it might be getting a bit bigger but it is not red at all. HIs belly is HUGE. If he were a livebearing female Id say he was pregnant w/ about a hundred babies. His body is the size of a walnut- his little arms and legs look like sticks.
Any ideas on what to do? I just ordered some koi food- it has an antibacterial in it and its a sinking soft pellet- to be overnighted to me but I dont know if he'll eat t hat or not or if its even safe for him to eat. Im kind of at a loss.
Ideas? Suggestions?
My tap water has a ph of about 7.6. Other readings are not a concern b/c I do the daily water changes. There is nothing but aquarium caves in the bare bottomed tank.
Oh, I did notice the ONE day I didnt do a water change (and that was also the day there was food left on the floor of the tank for about 40 hours) I was attacked by a huge planaria colony. Another teaspoon of salt in the water and a water change cleared that up but thats the only thing that was different that one day.
What do you all think?
Thanks, Nancy

Hi asparagus :)

I say congratulations are in order to you for keeping your little guy alive through all of this. ADFs are very hard to treat and once they fall ill, the prognosis is seldom good.

Just keep up doing what you have been doing, and hope for the best. He is lucky to have such a caring owner  and if he can recover, I'm sure you will make it happen.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I just hope the poor little guy isnt suffering- he SEEMS happy, but who am I to determine the emotional condition of an aquatic frog? grin.
He didnt eat the bloodworm snack I gave him last night. :(
