Hi all!

We are hoping to be getting a new tank very soon-we think it will be the 64 litre Interpet Fish Pod(I decided to go for a bigger tank rather than one that will fit on the desk!). The filter that comes with it is one of the PF filters( i think a PF 2?) and i wondered if anyone here knows if this filter is safe for the ADF's or if we should be looking at getting a different one to replace it?

Currently they have an undergravel filter but i definately dont want another of those! So any advice on frog safe filters(specifically the one that comes with the tank we intend to buy) is very welcome!

On a side note, we plan to have a Betta living with the frogs, and also considered getting some new froggies too. We sadly now only have 2 frogs, we lost one unexpectedly a few days ago  They are over 4 years old and we absolutely love them so have been thinking about whether we could add some more to the new tank. I dont want to over stock or make things uncomfortable, but along with a Betta and our 2 frogs, would we get away with putting another 2-4 frogs in a 64 litre tank?

Internal filters and Hang on the back filters work well. (If there is a large intake section you can use a panty hose to reduce suction)
Personally, I am not a fan of under gravel filters with frogs.

If you are going to introduce new frogs - QUARANTINE them, do not just toss them in with your current frogs. They need to be quarantined for 4-6 weeks to make sure they are healthy.

64 liters is about 16/17 US gallons. This could happily house about 7 frogs.

If you do choose to house a betta with the frogs, I would limit your frog colony to about 5. Also, you have to hand feed each frog with fingers, tweezers, or a turkey baster to ensure that they get their share of food. They hunt by scent and would take much longer than the betta to find their food.

Bettas and ADF also have different diets. Bettas should be fed flakes/betta pellets and ADF should have a diet of HBH or Zoomed frog/tadpole bites. Both can have bloodworms as treats.

Make sure you have lots of hiding places so the frogs can "hide" from the betta should they get startled.

Thanks for the reply Jenste. have been doing my research on keeping Bettas and obviously know about them having different diets. and i mentioned on another post that we already hand feed the frogs so not a problem there :good: And i have great plans for the new tank, will be getting a few small hidey holes and adding lots of silk plants along with the water wisteria and moss balls :good:

I should have made it clearer that when i asked about filters i was referring to internal filters, but wondered if people could recommend specific brands and types. I would prefer not to have to cover any of the filter with tights/panty hose so figured if i can just get a frog safe one to begin with then i wont need to do that. I had heard the stingray filters were fine with frogs, but before getting one it would have been good to know if the filter that comes with the tank im getting is actually ok, though i know its a long shot hoping someone here would have the same one.

I do have one question regarding the quarantine-is there a reason new frogs would need to be quarantined for 4-6 weeks? I know new fish should be quarantined for around 2 weeks, but is there a reason the quarantine period is longer with the frogs? I had planned to get the Betta and new frogs from the same place and put them in the new tank first for the quarantine period and then add our original 2 frogs once we knew there was nothing wrong with any of the newbies.

Cascade makes a type of internal filter, looks like a blue rectangle that I have used with very young ACF (similar to ADF size) and have had no problems with it.

Thanks for the recommendation Jenste, i did a quick search for cascade filter on ebay and it didnt return much but i shall google it too. I have spoke with someone who owns the tank i plan to get and they think the filter that comes with it will be safe for frogs, so i suppose i will find out once i set it up and I'll have time to change it before adding any frogs if i think its unsuitable.
