Hi I am a fairly new to the fish scene. I have had a tank set up for a little while now and I wanted to get something that I have wanted since I was a kid - a frog. I know very little about frogs though and was thinking of getting an african dwarf frog. Would these be compatible with the fish I already have as don't want any casualties (on the fish OR frog side). I have several guppies, 3 cat fish 5 harlequin rasboras a small pleck and (and this is where I am not sure if they will be suited with frogs) 2 angelfish. Will the angels fight with the frogs? They don't seem aggressive. the tank is a 150 liter tank. Any advice on any small frogs that would be well suited, their behaviour and feeding habits would be much appreciated as I have always wated a frog (or two). Also they would have to be underwater all the time as I have no dry parts that they could climb on to. I need advice, please

they go well with big slow moving fish. the fast moving ones scare them and eat all their food to quickly. african dwarf frogs are very sensitive to light so need lots of hiding places as well. they dont have very good sight and locate most their food by smell but even their sense of smell is questionable. the biggest problem with housing them with fish is feeding them. they eat brine shrimp blood worms and will eat sinking frog pellets but i dont think the frog pellets work all that well. some people will feed their frogs with a turkey baster so the other fish cant get it. i have three frogs in a tank by themselves. they dont have to worry about competing with food and the water parameters and temperature and substrate are all suited to them. if you want to keep them in with other fish it will be more trouble and they are more high maintainence. if they're by themselves theyre a piece of cake to care for.

Thanks Utahfish, Are there any other frogs you could suggest that would live happily in my tank?? I have another tank but use it for breeding so I wouldn't want to put a frog in there. As a frog is something I have wanted for some time, I am prepared to go to the extra trouble of feeding it through a turkey baster as long as it would live happily and not stressed. As far as I know you only need to feed them every 2nd day. Is that right? I don't mind doing that.

i feed my frogs once a day but they could do every other day. the only other aquatic frogs are african clawed frogs that get alot bigger and will eat your fish. then their are red bellied toads but they are semiaquatic and predatorial eat crickets need land will also eat small fish and not compatible with african dwarf frogs either. african dwarf frogs are ideal aquarium frogs as they are totally aquatic shouldnt be taken out of the water and are with compatible fish. they are pretty shy though and you wont see them much if you put them with fish. mine are by themselves other than a few sanils and are out all day and night. it's also easier to feed them but if your up to putting them in with your fish then go for it. they can tolerate a wide variety of P.H balance and temperature so you wont have to worry about that.

i also forgot to mention that they are very social animals and do better in groups. they feel more comfortable in groups and sometimes can be heard craocking to eachother. i had four but one died and i now have three they all sleep together in the same cave. if you do get som ADF"s get atleast 3 the more the marrier

hi frogs do work with fish though and i would expect adf's in your tank to work great. i currently have two adfs with a betta and some whitecloud mountain minnows with no problems, the did tend to get really fat though like massive becasue the minnows laid eggs that the frogs ate they were at one point wider than they were long minus leggs, what utahfish said si a concern but not a limiting factor go for itand just be carefull to watch and ensure your frogs are getting food

matchu ADF's dont do well with danio's danios are too fast and frantic and tend to scare the frogs. even if you use a turkey bastor to feed the frogs the danios still try to steal it. i had three frogs with four danios and all three frogs died with in a week. i never saw the frogs becasue they were always hiding from the danios. now that i have frogs in a tank by themselves theyre out all the time. the frogs do well with bigger slow moving fish or smaller calm fish not hyper speedsters like danios.

I've been looking to rehouse the danios, because frankly, they are boring, and this gives me more of an excuse.

They seem to be restricting me from getting something more interesting.
