basically iv set up a new tank

iv used old water and a mature filter so its not a problem with its age

basically the reason why i bought a new tank is because i dont want my new
siemese fighting fish to tear my other fish up

so its a very lonely siemese ina 8.2 ukgallon tank

i would like a good friendly or 2 fish to go with him anyone got any suggestions

that wont result in a fish tank massacre

Yes, it is a little small for Cories, especially since they like to be in groups. I'd recommend an African Dwarf Frog. You can find info on them here, and we also have an Invertebrates, Amphibians & Aquatic Reptiles Forum where you can find out even more about them. They get along well with Bettas too. Just make sure you get an African Dwarf Frog, and not an African Clawed frog.

That's all I can think of for that size tank...but maybe someone else will have another idea. :)

Yep! As they snap and snap and snap... LOL! And they get stuck under plants and hide in gravel, which isn't always smart...but, they are cute and very fun to watch. They eat frozen bloodworms. But, they aren't that bad. They also eat SeaMonkeys...I mean brineshrimp. LOL They also shed there skin, it is related to different weather and seasons. And they aren't like fish...when they die they sink, not float. There was a person who said one of her Dwarfs live to be 18 yrs. old!!! That is pretty old for a frog/fish.

I love neons and mollies. You could just get a Puffer.

 Not with Betta. Puffers are predators and don't tolerate fin-nippers...because they nip fins too. A lot of Puffers have nasty tempers.

Well the betta could go in a bowl! Or something.I have one figure 8 puffer named Butters and he has been in with my angelfish for three weeks and not nipped them once! And also yes they are fin nippers but hey they are better than just one betta!!

Neons are known to nip fins though. There have been disaster stories about keeping Bettas with Neons. And Neons need a school, and that tank is a little small for that. Mollies just get too big for that tank...a 4-6" Molly wouldn't fit so well. :)

You know, alphauk101, You could just keep the Betta with no friends. He isn't really "Lonely". Sometimes male Bettas are best kept that way, since some of them can be aggressive to other tankmates...however, if you have a calm boy, it should be okay. But if you put any fish or a frog in with him, watch very closely for the first couple hours, and continue to moniter over the next week or so.

Why would he want that? He wanted his Betta to have tank mates...not to go in a bowl. Bettas are best kept in tanks anyway.

To say your puffer hasn't nipped yet, doesn't mean he won't, and when he does, will you be there ready to take him out and put him into a pre cycled tank of 10 gallons or more?

Giving the advice to keep a puffer with a betta is totally inaccurate to be honest. I don't want to sound spiteful, but that's the truth. I know you say your puffer hasn't bitten any of your fish, but I doubt he'll forever stay that way.

a group of Pygmy Cories might be okay

Male bettas strongly prefer being kept solitarily; they are a territorial, agressive species that is stressed by the presence of other fish. They may display this behavior by constantly attacking the other fish, or by choosing a small "territory" in one portion of the tank, resulting in him hanging listlessly around one area. I think your boy would be much happier and healthier alone in that tank; perhaps you could work on your aquascaping to make the tank more interesting.

What ever you do, do not put him in with puffers, angelfish, guppies, or female bettas, regardless of what any misinformer person tells you. These are all species that will be problematic with a male betta for sure, and probably problematic for the tank set up as well.
