Bah, I lost two of my best reds last night, and possibly two more who aren't looking so great -_- Then about 5 more who were almost dead when I found them but they've since perked up remarkably.

It all started yesterday morning. I went in to do changes on the bigger containers at about noon. I was running low on Amazon Rain so I filled one of my three buckets and dechlorinated so I could use a bit to water down my AR. I carried that bucket into the fishroom and came back to fill the other two. I added the AR and thought "Did I dechlorinate?" and assumed I did, but I guess I didn't. I didn't even realize it until about 11 that night when I went in and found two dead, covered with a heavy film, and the rest in that row were all laying on the bottom, pale and heaving, one was on his back :-( Some of my ST & DT's :(

That's what made me notice was my one favoritist little DT was looking clampy and had white stuff hanging from his anus ,he's right by the door on the top shelf and usually greets me everytime I walk in. I had started the wc's with him, and for some reason I used the second bucket to fill his container, so he was the only one in that row that it happened to. Which broke the pattern and totally confused me because it was all of the second shelf bettas that were dying/dead.
I was so puzzled and upset, it was a panic and I had to literally rewind to figure out what on Earth happened. When I did figure it out, uggh I was so pissed at myself. So I prayed as I grabbed a cup and put some water and a heavy amount of dechlorinator in it. I poured it in their containers and took the two worst away, then I just tried to talk them through it. They were attentive but pretty upset. They ate like 5 minutes after I fixed the situation, which surprised me.

I was almost too scared to turn the lights out last night for fear that they'd just wither away in the dark -_-

When I woke up this morning I was a little nervous to even look but they all seemed good, the two who were the worst are once again red. I moved them back with the rest of the boys but they still worry me.

If this had happened when I was doing smaller containers, I could have easily wiped out a few dozen fish :( It was just a freak thing but it sucked big time.

arrgh, anyway. Just had to ramble about it. It was quite traumatizing. Lesson to be learned - even when you're pretty sure you've done something,if there's any doubt, do it over.

Ah, that's AWFUL!!!!! At least there weren't more casualties than that, though!

That's horrible Wuv, I'm so sorry! At least the rest of the boys seem to be pulling through

Wou. That was a surprised shocking. I have 4 plastic 34 gallon trash container that I filled up with water at my back yard. I declorinating them while I filled up the container and I usually will used them after three days. I will not worried if I need any aged water.

God, I hate those moments where you just want to kick your own ass....

Bummer about the boys :byebye:

My condolences Wuv, but it's good to know you are brave enough to tell everyone about it so others know that even great breeders and moderators can make a mistake now and then! Means that I trust you even more now because you're honest. I hope that helps a little.
Good luck with the other lads, Cheers, Xan. You're probably going to be extra vigilant with them from now on.
I would buy from you but I think shipping from USA to Australia would be way too far for the health of the Bettas.

oh so sorry to hear that Wuv

Poor little red guys :-(

I hope the others are on the mend soon

Thanks so much, guys. It was really a horrible night :( My wittle babes.
xacid~ Thanks for saying that,it means a lot to me :)

So far everyone who was on death row has perked up, here they are last night..

They're red again, instead of that horrible deathly brown, the two on the right end were the worst.
And my little red from the top shelf

Which now brings me to wondering...why did two die so much quicker than the others :S It seems like, since these fish have almost identical lives, that if one was going down -they all would. -_-
I dunno, but again thanks for your kind words

glad to hear that most are back to normal.. that's so sad to hear about the lost 2... poor guys

Wou, i am happy for you that they all get back to normal now. You were fast enough to save the others. If you missed a three minutes to found out at that time, you might lost another one. :) I think you change the two earlier than the others. Don't forget to get few 34 gallon trash bucket and store it outside like me. LOL My yard look so funny now. LOL

Yeah, a few of the folks in my betta club do it that way too. I just don't know where I could store it,unless I'm just having a brain stump and the answer is clear as day (go look at my fishroom pics and help me rearrange for a bin :hey:  Seriously. ) so I've just been using the fresh out of tap method for the last couple of years. The backyard is too far away from the fishroom and it might make me lazy, especially since I do most of my changes late at night/ in the wee hours of the morning. And just think how much worse it would have been...ugh.

newfishies ~ I know :( I'm so thankful that the others pulled thru though

That was awful, glad most of them made it, i've done that once them remembered i hadn't added declorinator, so ai added it straight away.
