 I have just finished setting upy Stingray tank and it is now ready to add fish. Does anyone know the smallest type of Stingray and how much they may cost and avalibility on them.
:kana:

A lfs around here sells one. It's about 10 cm wide right now but it grows over 12 [sorry, i misread the website] inches according to their website.

They sell it for 150$ canadian

the name is Potamotrygon motoro or Motoro stingray

it is a beautiful fish

I'm thinking about getting one when i get a big tank

Potamotrygon scobina is probably the smallest freshwater ray which will grow to have a disk diameter of around 12 inches, all other species you can safely presume they will reach a disk diameter of at least 18 inches.
The availability of rays is very dependent on where you live, i have personally never seen P.scobina in a store but P.motoro, P.hysterix, P.leopoldi and P.laticeps are all pretty common. You can expect to pay at least £100/$100 for any species of ray and much more for rarer species.

P.motoro will grow to a minimum of 18 inches and can reach up to 24 inches in diameter dependant on sex and regional varients.
I would not advise buying any ray with a disk diameter of less than 6 inches (15 cm) as the smaller the ray the more fragile and difficult to keep they are.
