Hiya

I was at the lfs today and saw a couple of fish labelled as "freshwater stingrays". I wasnt aware tehre were any freshwater stingrays, are they genuine freshwater or would they have to be moved to marine/brackish in time?

I'm not planning on getting one or anything, I'm just curious. And suspicious because I remember reading about mislabelled "freshwater" flounders...

Could be any of the freshwater or brackish water rays, there are VERY many of them. In other words, yes, there are totally freshwater rays (and flounders.). ;)

Freshwater rays do exist, there are quite a few species and they aren't particularly difficult to find, not here at least.

On the other hand, i believe there is only 1 or 2 species of FW flounders.

P.T.

some. I like the sw Blue spotted ribbontail stingray. I think they look better than any othe ray

All rays grow to at least 12". "Teacup ray" is a generic name for virtually any small ray. ;)
