Hi,

My mom and are starting preliminary research for a new tank. We had initially been thinking about a discus tank in the 80 gallon range....but now, we're thinking that we may get something larger- something like a 110 gallon.

I currently have a very healthy thirty gallon tank, and my mother grew up with fish.

Yesterday, I read about freshwater stingrays (specifically Potamotrygon sp. "P14").....does anyone know about them? Can I keep them in a 110 gallon tank?

It will depend on the dimensions of the tank. Stingrays prefer more surface area to swim, so a tall tank would not be significant to the stingrays.

A 110g tank will still be too small for any stingray, the smallest species grows to at least a foot wide and needs a minimum of a 4x2x2 tank (120g) and prefferably bigger.

These are for sale in Bradford and they range in price up to £500 there and they are very nice but you would honestly need a monster tank to keep them in and i personally don't think they should be on sale at all but that's just my opinion.
I keep Discus with corydoras, tetras, 2 L number plecs and rams and i can assure you that this would be a nice set up in an 80 gallon tank. If i can help you plan for discus you can always give me a shout and i will be pleased to help. Just don't buy discus under 3 inches and do buy from a reputable discus dealer as an awful lot for sale in some of the shops are poor specimens.

why should they not be for sale their are people that can take care of them

if people resurch them before they buy then they are no harder to take care of then discus

i would say more people kill discus than than people who kill rays buy not taking care of them properly

BUY THE BIGGEST TANK YOU CAN THEN THINK ABOUT STOCKING IT

Why only get discus that are larger than 3 inches? Does their color fade, or are they more delicate at that size?
