I was at my lfs today and I noticed that they had a small freshwater ray. He was in the tank with the elephant noses. I was wondering what the smallest tank size was for them. He was a very pretty fish!
The smallest ray (scobina) needs at least a 6'x2'x2' 180g and they are quite dificult to keep. More common easier to keep motoro's (the one's most likely seen) as an adult will need an 8'x2'x3' as they get a disk of about 2' and then have their tails aswel.
Generally they will sell anything they will make a profit on, there's not alot we can do about it except not buy the fish and hope they don't get any more in.
Did you get the name of the ray or was it just labelled FW ray?
It was just labled freshwater ray unfortunatly. And my lfs tends to get fish that tend to get really big. They have a huge common pleco for sale. They also have arrowanas sometimes. They also had a red tailed catfish when I went there today.
Wow, now that is a fish that a lfs should not stock!!! He was very big and was in a big tank with two gold severums and a big pleco. He sort of looked like a gentle giant... but then not.
