Hi
I now have so many baby shrimp-
neocaradinia- that I’m not sure if I should put them in a larger tank. They are in a 10 gallon tank. I have a 20 gallon tank in the garage. But I don’t have the room for a 20. I would have to buy a stand, gravel. Maybe a new tank if the old one in garage doesn’t hold water anymore. It’s not just the expense. Early last year I lost all but 2 shrimp because I had rearranged the tank and added gravel.
I am feeding the tiny newborns baby shrimp food which clouds the water temporarily- it’s powdery. Every day there 4-6 new babies.
I am so happy that now I have shrimp again, but am afraid of how or if they should be put in a larger tank.
I enclosed a couple pics. It doesn’t show how the tank looks every morning- a carpet of orange.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Sadly there's nothing you can do. As soon as they become happy they multiply exponentially...

I'm trying to slow down the phenomena by using softer water and trying to slow down molting rate.

Atm my success is pretty limited and still have to remove shrimps on regular basis.

So one solution is to find someone who could buy some from you on regular basis.

Or drastically reduce feeding... And not add any baby food. I know it's harsh.

When fed like chickens they lay a lots of eggs.

Doubling the tank size only doubles the problem :) . But it's an happy problem !!!

Thank you for your reply. I feel better knowing that it’s a common shrimp fact that they are so prolific. I will stop the baby food. Hopefully that will help. We have a Petco about 30 minutes away. They don’t take the best care of their aquariums. The man who was in charge of the fish department has retired so it’s attended to by a variety of employees. Our veterinarian is also the same one for Petco. She is no longer visiting there on a regular basis. She will attend to an emergency there. The closest pet shop besides that Petco is 3 hours away in any direction.
The food I give to the adult shrimp sinks to the bottom so it’s easily accessible for babies.
Thanks again!

I reduced to 3 meals per week and let them graze on the botanicals for the rest of the time. I sprinkle a little baby food once. as a minimal baby survival insurance.

I try to maintain naturally the lowest nitrate level and do "small and often" water changes. Things are settling slowly.

But If you have a buyer. It's very easy to make a little fortune with small effort. When I started the tank a year ago I never thought that I would sell that many per month.

But still I think it's a little like guppies, once correctly sized the food required, the colony should settle down.

I hope 😅
