I'm looking to make some kind of rockscape in my tank, to give some shelter, nothing big or exciting but I want to make sure its secure by attaching the rocks together. Don't want to squash the fish if they knock it!

What do you think would be the best way to do this? Silicon or an epoxy resin that is waterproof? Also is there any particular type of rock thats a no no - I'll definitely go for a non abrasive rock - would pebbles from the beach be ok? If not where could I get some (hopefully free!) rock from!

I'm a newbie at DIY fish stuff!

To join your rocks together use Aquarium SAFE silicon, there is a difference compared to normal silicon that you buy in a hardware store be honest I do not know what the difference is something in the make up but it is VERY important not to use normal silicon.

As for were to get them sorry cant help you I have used stones of a beech before but only smaller ones and if you do use them make sure you clean them I mean REALLY clean them as they could be contaminated with all sorts of nasty s.

I hope this helps good luck :good:

Pebbles from the beach would probably be ok (assuming its flint). Would want to make sure they are well cleaned though. Slate is also good.

For sticking them together you can use Reef putty like the one found on the link below:

Make sure that you dont use anything like limestone which can effect the waters PH and hardness (a good test for this in general is to chip a bit off the stone and put it in vinegar. If it fizzes for a long time it probably it will probably increase your PH and water hardness). You want inert stone such as slate. Have a look at the link below for more info on safe rocks.
