I love the look of moonlights and I'd love to add them to my 55g freshwater tank.

The thing is that whenever I google up moonlights I only find information on them in saltwater tanks. Is it just not as popular with freshwater tanks, or is this harmful to freshwater fish?

Assuming it's safe, could I get some suggestions on moonlight ideas. IE: Guides, where to buy, kits, etc?

Thanks!

a lot of people her, myself included, use cold cathodes.
you can get them from ebay quite cheaply.

you should check the milliamp rating of the
transformer and avoid any that are less than 600ma
as they have a tendancey, IME, to burn out quickly.

I recomend razer-opto as a good seller, I've delt with him
many times and his after sales service is fab.
here is one of his kits
cold cathode

Those look REALLY bright. I don't want something that bright.

Does anyone know the range of light that is most effective for moonlighting? I want something where it's light enough to see some of the fish, but not bright enough to disturb them from sleep.

these units come with a transformer so you can vary the current
making them less bright.
also consider LEDs too as they to have a dimable set up.
