I was just reading a thread about treating marine ich, and I started thinking about freshwater dips since it wasn't suggested as a treatment for it. It seems like I've been told and/or read that this method was pretty frowned upon. I was just curious as to what others think.

I know when I had my seahorses  it's reguarded as pretty common to get rid of external parasites. And when I got my first two clownfish, I lost the first one within hours of bringing it home after I noticed a slime covering it (I now forget what the name of the disease was). Then, after I brought home a replacement, I noticed it too had the beginning of the same slime. I did a freshwater did on that clown, and the slime came off and I still have the little guy to this day.

I know it's key to match pH and temp when doing these dips, and I'm wondering if people have had diseasters doing the FW dip because they didn't match the pH and temp.

Again, just curious to others' thoughts.

Well I've always been careful about dipping fish. It's not something I'd do lightly. I only recommended this approach as it looks like the member could lose all his livestock.

IMO it is very stressful to the fish, BUT it is very very effective if it's done correctly. I wouldn't dream of giving my regal tang a FW dip as the stress would make her worse. If my clownfish was ill I would do it though.....
