My LFS has some freshwater clams in stock.

Has anyone kept these?

They are marketed as filter feeders helping keep water clean.

Any views on these good or bad, are they worth getting? are they interesting?

don't touch them with a bargepole.

Basically they just slowly starve to death in tanks as the water column does not provide enough nutrition for them.

avoid!

Agree 100% with ZZ. It's just not possible to keep these in tanks.

Only way to keep them would be filter feeder food. I keep them but does the tank with New Life Full Spectrum food.

Thankyou for the very quick replies, i will avoid them.

I was just trying for something different to go in my community tank apart from shrimp and these seemed like an option.

anyother options for something a bit different?

Really its just snails and shrimp for community tanks. A dwarf frog maybe depending on the tankmates.

why not go for an unusual fish?

Banjo cats are good bottom dwellers. and, unusual, to say the least. as would be any whip tail cat(pleco)..

but an invert????? not in the UK. though Mexican Dwarf Crayfish (fireshrimp) are said to work. anywhere else.

I have had them for 4 months now. They used to be in a 5 galln with a betta, now they are in a 180 gallon pond with sone sunfish and other pnd things. I will try to get pics, the weather is crazy right now.
