I'd like to keep a couple clams in my tank, since they're so cute and seemingly peaceful.

I've been seeing suggestions that they need a current generator to help them filterfeed, yet I don't know much else about their basic needs, and I wanted to hear about the basics, and some intricacy, from someone that has housed them in the past.

EDIT - That is... If I wanted to keep a tank, in the future, would it have to be solely dedicated to clams? It may be interesting, if I'd have the ability to create such an environment for the creatures.

Hi well I have some mine are just kept in the water in a random place, it dsnt matter where you put them as the will move if it's wrong the only advice I'd give is they will release over 2000 little clams when they reach 4 years old no special requirements to my knowledge I keep mine in community tanks they are not like fresh water mussels who Basically infect a host when mussels spawn its basically floating spores which get trapped in the fishes gills preventing the fish from absorbing oxygen from the water so you should be fine tbh :)

as a rule this is not recommended. well not in a community tank. they need a green water environment. and there simply in not enough food in a community for them.

you have had a differing view here. however do a search using NMOMK name and clams as the title. few would argue with nmomks knowledge. he is vehemently against keeping clams in a community. as they simply starve over a very long period of time. calms that move, at all, are in trouble.

set yourself up a species tank. though the excitement might send you into a torpor. lol.

not for the community tank. as is advised all over the fishkeeping world. except of a few here.
