Freshwater Clams

ive had 2 fresh water clams for a few months now (9) and one died i bought them separatly and the newest one lasted a good while then just died. do i need to feed them with plankton or a special freshwater clam diet. the older one seems fine and has outlasted the other one buy at least 2 months.
