Can North American fresh water mussels be used in aquariums. I’ve seen mussels for sale in shops but I think they are imports.
 
if local laws allow, then yes but they need a green water set up to really thrive, so look into their specific care first

That's an intriguing answer. Where would one look to learn more about green water set ups? It's the first I've heard of it. When I google green water it's just fixes for algae problems.
 
Look up how to culture green water :)

You may find yourself needing to keep up a culture supply of it, and use a pipette to feed it, since theyre filter feeders and thrive off that type of food in the wild.
