I have two freshwater angels in my tank and they look very different! was wondering if there are different kinds of freshwater angels or if they are all one breed with different colorations. here are what mine look like (these are not my fish but the pictures are from the internet and look pretty much identical to the ones i have. couldnt get my guys to sit still long enough or come close enough to the front of the tank XD)

Angels are so different in the available forms that people will rally around one or another appearance as the one they really like. My own local fish club has lots of angel enthusiasts so it contains many so called experts in different forms of angels. In reality, all forms of angels available to the hobby today are really variations of the wild type fish. None of them look much like their ancestors but all of them are connected to those fish.

Just to clarify OldMan's comments..

All these angels are the same species (NOT 'breed') Pterophyllum scalare.

The different colour morphs, like 'marbled' or 'koi' could be classed as 'breeds;, in the same way that a labrador and poodle are both breeds of dog.

The first of your fish is near the wild angel type, the second is a koi angel.
