Hi. I am looking for a new NAT drive for my network ATM, and was wondering if anyone on here uses or recomends Freecom stuff? I'm looking at one of these;

Here

Needs to be 500GB+ if you want to recomend an alternative, as we used every bit of that on the old failed drive and NAT...(PCU in the old NAT bax went, taking out the drive with it apparently :/ Gorra love Maplins computer stuff... :lol: )

Thanks

NAT Drive?...are you sure you're not mixing up a NAS drive and the protocol NAT?

Assuming it is a NAS drive that you want, I'd recommend a Buffalo unit.

The cheaper nas's are bad as one another tbh freind of mine has a esata 500 gb external freecom (hdd is a samsung) with no probs for the last 18 months. i have a 4 year old linkstation an i cant fault it. steerclear of the lacie nas drives as the interface hardware is very crude (had 4 lacie externals go down with in 3 months of purchase). The WD My Book use there own software to access the nas whats not good if the software goes down and a pita if your building/repairing or adding to your network

the netgear nas drives are dire there very picky whit what drives you install and use there own software to access the nas

NAT = network address translation (used in routers to transfer internal traffic the the outsside world and visa versa it also acts as a basic firewall)

Sorry, looks like I messed up terms here, yes, looking for a NAS (Network Attached Storage) caddy and drive.

General consencus so far is cheaper = rubbish, with Buffalo and Linkstation gear being good?

That sunk that boat, as I'm on a tight budget with this :rolleyes: Better get saving as soon as the marine tank is off the ground, and take a look at Linkstations stuff... I knew Buffalo was supposed to be one of the best, but I have also found them to usualy be more costly than others. I suppose you could compair it to anything else then, you get wat you pay for.

Thanks all
Rabbut
