I have a 4ft long 1 ft back to front and just over 1ft high tank I nabbed from outside someones house (I did knock and had their permission to take it).

I need to give it a good scrub up - but also their is a bar of glass that they guy said has to be glued back into the top center. He said this is used to hold the back and front together and stop bowing under the pressure of the water. The tank has about an inch wide ledge of glass going round the inside of it and this is what this piece of glass goes onto.

Now, is this true? surely in an oblong the water is evenly distributed to it would not put any excess strain on the centre of the tank? espcially as it is not over deep either.

If I do need to glue this piece back in, what do I use please

It's known as a centre brace, and from what I gather pretty important structually for the tank.
