I swear I have a bunch of peace loving hippy bettas. They never fight! Ever!

I came home and found that my female jumped her divider and was in with this male... and... they were totally ignoring eachother. Tiny space... ignoring eachother! Pecking at plant roots... ignoring eachother! Bah! I'm not saying I want a blood bath but come on. Nip a fin, make a bubble nest, do something  Eh, at least she got stripes. Isn't she seccy?

(Ignore insane water streaks)

That's cute. :) What silly litte critters.

I came home the other day to find my two DT brothers in the same section of their divided tank again. Not a single nipped fin, not a single unhappy Betta. I come over to look at them and tell them they're both little stinkers (this isn't the first time this has happened, but I have yet to figure out a good way to stop it), and they swim up to the front and wiggle and beg for food, both of them so close they're whacking each other with their tails. Still...neither cared. The only time they got upset was when I stuck my net in and separated them again.

For such a normally aggressive species...they sure can be passive sometimes.

lol both of those stories are too adorable. I can just imagine both fish, all wide eyed innocence, "what, split us up?! We wuv each other!"

I think it really all depends on the temperament of the bettas involved. If you've got two reasonably passive fish who have spent a long time in close proximity, they may have gotten so used to each other that being dumped in together might not seem like such an awful thing for them. I had two guys at one point who I suspect would have chummed right along if they'd been allowed to (Mummy, of course, was too chicken to find out).

On the other hand, if you have two bettas with "normal" temperaments, being side by side for any length of time would probably work them up to such a fever pitch that when they finally got the chance they'd rip right into each other. :/

I'm so glad that your guys can get along- I should imagine that makes it much easier on whoever has to come home and find them together :p

i hada friend that kept 2 bettas in a 10gal an there wasnt a nipped fin in site.

Both those stories are so cute!!
One time when Yura was still young and small and in the split 10 gallon, he managed to wiggle through a tiny gap in the divider... now, before this he had been flaring like mad at everyone and was a terribly moody little guy, but when I came home I found him and the other betta (I forgot who) ignoring one-another, the only damage being a small tear in Yura's anal fin that completely healed within 5 days... I guess one bite and he had had enough fighting!

Btw, both those bettas are completely adorable Auratus

awww so cute.i would of expected sime ripped fins though!
sounds like they like eachother ;)

ya some bettas have the right kind of loose temperment that allows them to be conditioned to a tank with other bettas in it, while some have had success with it, others have not. even if they dont seem to be immediately aggressive i would recommend keeping them in the same tank "bettas will be bettas"
