I think most people agree that a male and female should be allowed to see each other for about a week prior to breeding, than keep them apart for one day before putting them in the breeding tank. During the fraternization period, do you allow them to see each other for a few minutes or for 24/7?

I use the 24/7 approach, but keep them from seeing each other before they go in the tank.

But so far I have not been too succesful so I was wondering if I should change my approach.

3 attempted spawns... no eggs :(
1 spawn... i think I saw eggs :S
1 spawn... fry died in two days :-(

Sorry dude i dont know the answer to your question dont have betttas, i just wanted to comment on that smiley face , if your going to post at least say somthing instead of raising your post count.

nicklfire I agree, he's posted in pretty much every topic that has been on here.... Why else would he have 205 posts when he's only been on the forum for 11 days? I wonder how many of those posts are actually any different, no offense arrowhead but sometimes that's pretty annoying.

Sorry for being off topic, as to the topic, I let mine see each other for a few days 24/7 but they have hiding places as well. For him to build a good nest I think it's a good idea, but everyone does it differently. Different things work for different people. Try something else and see how it goes :) Like I said I let mine see each other and then just released them. I have a few fry now and I'm attempting another spawn, so we'll see how that goes.

Hiding place

Tanks, seems like a good idea. Willing to try it in any event. Place for both of them to retreat when they want privacy. Will go and mod their "viewing" set-up now.

I let them see each other constantly (with hiding places) for the full conditioning period.

What happens next depends on if they have bred before. If not i follow this guide.

Thanks for the link Betta*b*Happy. Always good to read more. Hope the next spawn works out.

Mine don't see eachother at all during conditioning. I put the male in the spawn tank in the morning, then add the female after a couple of hours. If they look happy with eachother and he has a bubblenest then I release the female in the evening. I just make sure they aren't ripping eachother to pieces then go to bed and leave them to it :D

They usually spawn the next day

Would be interesting to hear how everyone else does it
