In the kitchen sink...
Well this year we went to France on holiday again, camping for three weeks! :hyper: We had a great time and I took lots of photographs to bore you all stupid with!

The route:

St. Marlo (ferry port) - Rennes (overnight stay) - near Royan, in a town/village called St. Augustin (two week stay) - Dordognes (sp?) via Bordeaux (don't go any where near there if you don't like grapes, you get surrounded) - back to Rennes (overnight stay again) - St. Marlo, we spent the day there this time.

Yes, we travelled quite a lot on the holiday this year, and I can tell you, our backs all hurt a lot after the journeys! Note: Ford Mondeo seats just aren't comfortable on long jouneys.

So first of all, we stopped off at Guernsy (Sp?) one of the Channel Islands. If anyone can enlighten me on whether they speak French or English there, it would be over great help, as we are currently having a family debate! ;) So first pictures of the holiday: Guersey port!

Then we arrived at the campsite and such things, there was a beautiful sunset, but of course the camera couldn't pick the colours of both the trees and the sunset, no matter how hard I fiddled with...everything...Please excuse the top of the car, I had to lean on it to get my shot and keep th camera steady.

Here is what I believe to be a Redwood Tree (correct me if I'm wrong) lit up at night, it looked even more beautiful in real life!

So after that, we decided we would go check out the nearest beach. I can't remember the name of it, but it was a nice enough beach. Here is what I call the "Typical Seaside Scene"

And then, I was desperate to go to the zoo. I love animals just too much...so here are the pictures from Zoo de La Palmyre.

Flamingos - you could see these from outside the park!

And this one was from a different point in the zoo, but I'm going to group the animals by species rather then place in the zoo.

Here are two giraffe shots!

I think this was probably the Alpha Male of the wolf pack.

The caiman!

Capybara

I actually hate this shot, but I love cheetahs and thought it was cute...kinda...when you go past how crap it is...

This Emperor Tamarin was probably the youngest I saw in the whole zoo, and caused a lot of commotion with just that one feather. In the first picture, I had to shuffle the brightness and contrast about a bit, which is why there is noise in the image.

Again, crap shot, cute animal! I love Fennec Foxes!

This Giant Tortoise rocked! He is estimated to be around 132 or something, nice to see he's still going strong! :flex:

I'll post this one while I wait for more photos to upload onto photobucket.

Here was the hippo! He was opening his mouth for pop corn to be thrown in. The pop corn was safe for all the animals apart from the monkeys and was sold by the zoo, so no worries!
hippomouth.jpg

The jaguars were great, but the glass reflection was a pain, and you couldn't put the camera up against the glass because of the obscure glass angles.

Lemurs! There is a tiny baby one in there beside the one closest to the camera...I think...

The most beautiful leopard! Quite pleased with this shot, it was hard to get!

The big male lion!

My sister... (hee hee, sisterly love)

If anyone wants to get any idea of what I look like, this llama is a lot like me. Except I'm ginger, and my hair is longer and usuually even scruffier than that.
llamame.jpg

I love llamas...

I fell in love with a lowland gorilla

The meerkats were all inside this glass enclosure thing, which they could get out of if they wanted, but it was a about midday, so they were napping. The first shot I love, it makes me laugh every time!

The ostriches were really cool! They ate the popcorn really viciously from your hand! My mum got pecked
ostrich1.jpg

The otters were both really cute and really funny! The smallest one was the noly on not trying to sleep, so he was running around while all the others tried to sleep, with people feeding him the pop corn and the like. Then when he was trying to get on top of the pile, he sucsessfully managed to wake everyone up! That's m'boy! :flex:

THe little one wasn't in this one, he was busy running around still.

Evil penguins. I've never trusted penguins, ever since Wallace and Gromit...

Pygmy Marmoset! *squeal*

This lemur was giving my sister "the look".

It's a errrr...whatchamacallit...I'm not very good with things like that. I think it's either an ibex or a gemsbok.

This tiger wouldn't stay still but he was gorgeous!

That's the last of the zoo photos, now I'm off to re-size more from the rest of the holiday! :X

Wow superb clear shots! Bet you took loads of blurry ones of all the animals as well.... or did they all sit still for you?

So first of all, we stopped off at Guernsy (Sp?) one of the Channel Islands. If anyone can enlighten me on whether they speak French or English there

I have been there quite a few times. Its a really nice place.

Well, the vast majority of people speak English because most people who live there are English. There are some French people who live there too.

So basically they speak English.

Hope this answers you question.

Yeah, I took a load of blurry ones, particularly of the tamarins. A lot of those aren't of the quality I'd usually want to put up, but I love animals too much not to...hee hee!

Thanks for the insight about Guernsy!

Brilliant shots.

Guernsey Patois is the language of Guernsey.

Guernsey patois is based on Norman French, but like many regional dialects, it is in danger of dying out. Generally only older residents and a handful of enthusiasts still use the language. Until the Second World War, English was hardly spoken but the evacuation of half of the island's population to England ended centuries of tradition. Many children returned to Guernsey not knowing the patois.

French, obviously would be heard, English and I think Portuguese is becomming more commonly spoken on the Island.

some of those pics are simply amazing! award worthy!

awwwwwww those are great. I love the red panda..and the meerkat *lol*.
