I have bought one two days ago from lfs and its very very shy.Its wondering around what looks like to be going a sleep all the time. This morning i woke to him being stuck too the filter ive read somewhere they take a number of weeks to settle in is this true? And is it alright him going to sleep on the filter because he's trying to do that as week speak. Thanks josh.

When i bought mine, it was shy for a few days but they began comeing out and following my velvet wrasse about, alot.
Im not sure about the filter thing although i dont think it would be too good for it....

I turned the filter of last night so he went behind a rock instead, he's been behind the rock all today and he's moved twice all day seems to be very very shy.I havent seen him eat though as yet today.

Just to say fox face died last night, ive rang the lfs where i had him from and they will refund me the money for him.Anyway this morning ive been to get another one from another lfs and he is now swiming about eating and 100% better than the other one.

Sorry to hear you lost your first one but at least your new one is happy and eating.

Can i just ask, i know that foxfaces are poisonus and i was wondering if they release toxins into the water when they die, did yours ?

cheers

I dont think they that poisonus to be honest all ive heard is that if one stings you its like getting your thumb hit by a hammer. As for release of toxins im unsure about that i took a sample of my water this morning when i went to buy the new one and they said thats the best water they have had this week.So i dont think he did release anything in my tank anyway.

Just to update you fox face died tonight i saw the Royal Dottyback take a chunk out of his tail this afternoon and since then he was trying to hide away and the clown fish swam past and he jumped a mile. That Royal Dottyback is getting on my nerves he's as hard as nails i wish id never of bought him.Has anybody got any suggestions about fish that eat green alge and could put up with rambo the Royal Dottyback.thanks josh.

Oh no, not fun at all  sorry to here about your other one.

If the dottyback is territorial and wreaking some havoc in your tank, why not take him back to the lfs?

Just wanted to add almost all healthy animals will be able to swim away from filters/intakes, so that's a good indication that it wasn't well to begin with.

The dottyback is fine with all the other fish but does not like bigger fish than him, but saying that the regal tang ive got gets on fine with him and he is bigger. So perhaps he just does not like new freinds been added.

I was just thinking that if you did, maybe you could put him in there to add a tankmate. Leave him in there for a few weeks and then put him back in the tank???

Don't know if that would even work....just an idea :)

I see your point never mind ive been told today that instead of a fox face that a sea hare will do a better job to get rid of the green hair algae. So ive ordered one of them hopefully it works.
