Blue Lobster
Fish Crazy
I am alway trying to keep crystal clear, healthy water in my tanks (Aren't we all?). So I started playing around with filter media in my Aquaclear 500..
Here is what I did.
Stacked as follows.
Normal sponge, then a chunk of poly fill batting on top to cover the sponge. Then I took a piece of Aquapure Cut to fit carbon and wedged it so the it blocks the discharge and acts as a flow through filter. This also works on my smaller 300 and I guess would do the trick in any hang on tank filter.
This is that carbon filter pad, it's about 1/2 inch thick.
This setup clogs fairly quickly (3-5 days) but it sure makes the water crystal clear. I have to clean it when the water starts to overflow out the lift tube slot. Kind of like a built in indicator that it's clogging.
Cost about $7 and made a heck of a difference.
Hope this helps.
