I'll start off by clarifying that I am not a racist of any kind. I have just returned form a 5 hour fishing trip to my local pike lake, Lough Bracken. I have fished there for roughly 2 years now and have always had a good days fishing, never catching less than 3 pike(catch & release). It has always been a quiet spot in the middle of the countryside, very quiet which is what I wanted. In my 2 years fishing there I have only ever come across 4 other people fishing in it. When I got there today I was greeted by 4 cars and about 13 people fishing, non of them spoke a word of english and every fish they had caught was lying dead in a box. I tried to explain catch & release and just got what I gathered as insults in return before they all stormed off with their box of pike. I spent 5 hours fishing in what is usually a great spot and I caught nothing, first time in 2 years. Like I say I'm not racist but I don't understand why people would come and more or less obliterate the pike in the lake.
Rant over, thanks for listening!!!

wow that is just not right D:
where were they from...

we used to catch and release tigers in sri lanka when necessary.. then the foreigners come there in cars and shoot all tigers and went away with fur and bones..

i know how you feel.. next time call the police.. and check for license to fish..

I hear you Lock. Big problem around these parts too. We could start whole new threads and go on for years with it all.....Crazy.
And all we fought for.....

I think we've had it bad enough without them nickin our fish.

Wild lake, no license needed!

Maybe they wanted to eat the pike?
The only reason my dad and I went fishing to the lake was to catch and EAT what we catch.
Catching and releasing fish means wounding (and possibly destroying) the fish's mouth and nose. Why release a fish you have damaged back into the lake? What if it suffers an infection and dies? It is nothing more than hunting creatures for a sport, except that they are given a second chance at life, unlike becoming a stuffed trophy.

If I'll ever fish again, it would still be for food. Not for sport.

Very little harm is caused to the fish if it is done properly.

It's still harming a creature for the sake of entertainment.
Imo people should either fish for food or not fish at all, unless it is to mark the creatures for their safety.

I have a similar tale, I was fishing at a local canal and there were 3 polish men with a disposable barbecue with roach on it, no rod license and no day ticket, that's until the water bailiff came and fined them. Worst of it all is they didn't kill the fish before catching and the site is strictly catch and release only.

I still hate catch and release sports. I don't know why, but I see it as just plain wrong, same with tranquilizing animals and leaving them there, with the chance to be eaten by other wild animals.

If I'd have to fish, I'd fish for food (especially naturally raised fish) and not for endangered species either. Maybe for some carp or some of these catfish we have in a lake (though I doubt I could harm those... I just can't do it X_X they are so darn cute! T_T )
Just look at their faces...
