the guy in one of the many lfs around here said I could feed my fish small bits of sliced prawn.

Is this safe?

Prawns are a great food for most fish, they can be fed in small pieces or whole for large fish and plecs.

What about the cans of those mini shrimp at the grocery store? Does canning put harmful preservatives or chemicals (for fish) into the food?

Hi ladynaoko :)

Fresh or boiled shrimp or prawns are excellent treats for most fish. But, be sure that you remove any that is left uneaten. It could pollute the water if you don't.
