I have 4 silver Molly's. I vary between flake, pellets, and wafers. They don't go after the floating flake food the same as they do the pellets and wafers on the bottom of the tank. For flake I use Tetramin Pro (a multi-colored flake), a spirulina (green), and a flake to enhance color (red). Pellets are spirulina, silkworm, and krill. Wafers are algae.

Do Molly's prefer food off the bottom to floating on the surface?

Mollys just like food.

But sounds like your giving them a well rounded diet so well done. :good:

Hello,

This is what I feed my mollys:-

Vegetable flake food
Spirulina Flake dood (36%) ... a power mix!
Normal flake food
Frozen bloodworm (their favourite!)
Frozen daphnia
Frozen "quartet" (a mixed grill!)
Cucumber, sliced for my fry (left free in the tank). A larger chunk for the adults (think of a 5cm thick slice). This is suspended by a cotton thread which I push through the centre of the chunk.
Frozen garden peas. Allow to thaw, shell them, and "make a necklace" out of them (yep, needle and thread!) and thread about 20 or so into a loop. Hang this up in the tank near the front, so that you can watch them. I just trap the end of the thread under the lip of the lid. My mollys love this.. as the peas don't get lost in the tank.

Mollies are omnivores with a preference for vegetable matter. I would expect well fed mollies to focus on the spirulina flake, the algae wafers and the spirulina pellets while largely ignoring the other foods unless you let them get a bit hungry. Almost any fish will take frozen foods quite readily but it is not the best food for something with a vegetable focus like a molly.
