Ok well I just got my first tank. Paid only £40 for this fluval roma 90L with stand, filter, heater and little odds and ends.

Quite happy cuz thats a good deal right?! Ok so this dinky little Fluval 2 plus filter doesnt seem very strong, and I plan on going heavily planted. Ill leave some of my planted questions to that section of the forums. my main questions are, will I probably need to get a powerhead or a different filter to actually create some flow, cuz this filter just seems tiny. and second question, I have two different filter pads I used in an old vivarium project, one is quite dense, the other is more airy.

Can i use these as the filter pads in my filter? (it didnt come with any) which one should i use? or should i use both? the way this filter is set up leads me to think that water comes in from both sides, and hits both pads seperatly, meaning one side would get clogged up faster if i use the denser filter pad on that side. Am i losing my mind? heres a diagram of how this filter works.

I hope i made sense in my second question.

sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

if your going planted i would buy an external filter then theres nothing in the tank to spoil the look plus it gives you more room and better flow
