hi, i just bought a new fluval roma 240 tank and stand but it is the old type of stand so i have to drill holes in the stand to connect up to the tank. Has anyone got tips on how to do this or what to use.

anything would be great

Hi there,

we've just had a similar dilemma. We custom built a cabinet to take our existing 200L and the new 240L (both Romas) totally unaware that the design of the Romas had been changed to the drilled pipe thingies for the filter. After fruitlessly trying to find an old style 240 (why are all the second hand ones always for sale 100s of miles away!!) We marked on the surface where the holes would be, drilled the corners and then made a cut out using a jigsaw. It would have been almost impossible to cut two neat little holes to match perfectly as we didn't want to have to keep lugging the tank on and off the cabinet. I'll post a pic over the weekend if that will help.

You'd think they could provide a template for situations like this

i ended up getting a drill with a hole saw attachment and made some holes not very neat i might add but it works, im now in process of setting the filter up trying to make sure all pipes tight etc, first external filter so worried about leaking if not secure enough lol so fingers crossed have it all finished by tomorrow :)

At least the tank hides any lack of tidiness in the hole making (ours isn't exactly master craftsman standard either :D )

Actually, this is my first external too so like you I too am a little paranoid about making sure every thing is secure. I'm now considering, now that I have an external filter, getting one of those in-line heaters so as to have as little clutter as possible in the tank.

yeh that's it the tank is very handy for hiding the fact didn't do neat and tidying cutting. That sounds like a good idea about the heater, i hadn't really heard much about them.

but good luck :)
