I've got a Fluval Mini in my 5 gal tank and it's been working great since I got it but over the past month it has been making the most horrific humming/clicking noise. I checked the impeller, no goop at all. There's no air in it either. I noticed it's not overly powerful (even when disconnected from the sponges)so I blew into the end and it's all clear in there too. I found an old post on here that had a similar problem where the conclusion was that it was old age causing it, but I've only had mine for 6 months, and of those 6 months it's been running for about 3. Have I just picked up a faulty one? And has anyone else had problems with this type of filter before? What other filters could you recommend for a tank this size?

Mine make that kind of sound when a piece of sand or small snail gets into the works.

They are not long lasting little things unfortunately... though you can take it back where you got it at only 6 months old....

Personally, I would try and pick up a small HOB (hang on back) filter.

They are pretty cheap nowadays, and easy to maintain
