Well im thinking of buying a fluval fx5 as an uprgrade to the tetretec 1200 thats currently running on my malawi tank. The reason this is going is everytime we have a power cut it needs to be manually started when the power comes back on. Fine if im at home not great if im not. The other problem is its a pain to seal and normally takes 2 or 3 goes. Also the extra flow would be good

So my question is does anyone have any experiance of the fx5? Whats it like to clean out? Seal roperly? Reliable? I know its up to the job flow wise but will it need replacing every 12 month?

Also any suggestions where to get one from cheaply? I dont like ebay and my lfs wants £260 for one!! I know there avaliable for a LOT less than that, so where?

Thanks in advance

I LOVE THE fx5's i have 2 running my 200 gallon mbuna tank one a each end another on my 93 gallon and another on a 32 gallon with the flow turned down.

I have had 1 problem out of 4 and thats the impeller needs to be replaced, cleaning is very easy you unscrew the bolts and the top comes off you then lift out the baskets with two handles thats on either side wash out the media, putting back every thing is the reverse top goes back on first time every time.

If you get air trapped inside after a while it's a sign that it's over due for a clean of the media, all so there could be a chance that the hose might not fit through the space in the corner of the tank i have this problem on one of my tanks as the hose is quite large coupled with the bracket you get.

They are well worth the money and i have the same problem with my tertec ex1200 pain in the #14### arent they.

Thats exactly the response i wanted and im glad its not just me that has grief with the tetratec filter.

Looks like il have to man up and buy one off ebay then
